The Yorkshire Group of 16mm N.G. Modellers Ltd

Indoor Running: "Mount Dowd","Dixon Green"and" Saed y Parc "

The Yorkshire Area Group of the 16mm NGM owns and operates the portable layout "Mount Dowd". This was built over 2005 by some of the Yorkshire Group Members and replaces the original "Mount Dowd" which ran for many years as the Group's layout. It was updated with new corners in 2015 by John Orson and Tony Marshall.

"Dixon Green/Saed-y-Parc" was added in 2006 as a scenic layout and is still "under development". It was first exhibited in 2012.

Members can be involved setting up and running on "Mount Dowd" and "Dixon Green" and "Saed y Parc" at EXHIBITION events, see "Diary Dates" for details.

Portmadoc Update from Robert Groom May 2017

The track is a mixture; all scratch built. Some rail was obtained from Dave Billmore in return for a charitable donation, whilst other rail was bought from the M2M stand at Peterborough. Chairs and fishplates are all Tenmille

The points are made from Tenmille kits.

The sleepers are interesting in that the wood used for them started out life as part of a fireplace! The wood was cut on an industrial bandsaw before we cut them into individual sleepers which were then drilled using a jig to hold them.

We have spent the last four or five Thursday evenings assembling points and track. Our junior member Lewis Charlesworth has taken turns doing each part of the work, under supervision of course, gaining  plenty of track work experience.
