Keith Parkinson: The Gold Bug

The full size loco was built by the Climax Manufacturing Co. Corry Pennsylvania.

My version of The Gold Bug was inspired by the black & white photo, but with a few variations.

The loco is battery powered and made to look like it is steam powered.

It is built on a Essel 005 chassis with a drives to both axles via fly cranks and coupling rods.

The dummy boiler contains – 12 x AAA batteries - on/off switch and charger socket.

It has a dummy engine which I wanted to drive from one off the axles, but this was not possible.

The Fosworks OMNI radio control receiver is fitted in the condense tank, along with the Mtronics viper loco electronic speed controller.
